Sweet custom work, a shirt from a picture drawn by a child

A gift idea that will be remembered

Some time ago I received a nice order, a shirt printed with a picture drawn by a child.

The person who drew the picture is a prolific artist and enjoys drawing cartoons. He dreams of publishing his own comic, and his mother thought that the child might also like a shirt with a picture he drew. A bit like waiting for a comic book album to come as an advertisement.

The picture shows the child's interests, such as youtubers, flags of different countries and famous sights. The car has e.g. The Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. It was nice to look at this piece while working because new elements were constantly being found in the picture. Full points for creativity :)

From drawing to a shirt

I received two drawings made by this child for this commissioned work. One was the actual picture chosen for the shirt and from the other I just took the child's name because the artist had forgotten to sign the picture intended for the shirt and the autograph was wanted to include.

I scanned both images onto the tablet, moved the signature to the desired location and darkened the image drawn with a pencil using an image editing program.

In fabric printing, for making a screen, I need an image where the outlines are pitch black on a pure white background. However, customers don't have to worry about the color shades because I can modify them myself to suit my own use.

Materials and price

As a shirt for this order, I used Russel's Pure Organic fair trade t-shirt, which is nice and soft in material and hopefully comfortable on a child. The shirt does not have separate children's sizes, but the adult size XS fit well for this customer.

The price for this kind of work is 60e + VAT for the shirt mentioned above. Here's a nice idea, for example, as a personalized Christmas gift for an enthusiastic artist or his loved ones.
