Welcome to Roska Blog!
I thought I would try this blog to see if it would work as a channel to share my thoughts with you in a longer and somehow less busy way than someposts. Here I share my work as a craft entrepreneur and artist, and the products I make.
In the first episode, we'll have what else but an introduction to what Roska Art is and who's behind it.
What is Roska Art
Roska Art is the calling name of my small business and my own handle on social media. I'm a self-employed entrepreneur, so the official name of my business cannot be anything other than my own name. This has been noted by those who have bought from me by invoice or card, I hope it hasn't caused any more confusion than that.
The name Roska Art comes from my passion for using recycled materials, for giving new life to discarded textiles. I love digging through bins and the joy of discovery. I make art from rubbish, so what could be a more appropriate name.
My company and I are based in Kotka. At the moment I don't have a public studio or shop where customers can come to visit. Products can be purchased here from the online shop by mail order, from a few retailers, or occasionally from various events where I can hold a sales table.
I'll keep you posted on social media about retail locations and upcoming events as they come up. Also, you can always message me if you are organising an event that you would like me to attend.
What does Trash Art do
Roska Art, that's me, currently makes and sells screenprinted fabric print products, pins, stickers, flags and some textile artwork. I offer homemade, slow fashion that can be bought with a clear conscience.
I also make custom pins, fabric printing products and fabric printing kits for others.Especially close to my heart are support products for charities and various causes.I have made a lot of products for animal rights and anti-war causes and have participated in various fundraising campaigns.
My original and most popular product is a variety of cloth patches I make my patches using a technique called screen printing. I make my own screen printing in a DIY way by hand.
I use vegan and water-based inks, recycled fabrics and I try to be as ethical and ecological as possible with my current knowledge and resources.
I also screen print fabric bags, shirts and other ready-made textile products. I use a lot of recycled shirts which I upcycle to give new life and style by printing or sewing a new image on them.
I make patches and other screen printed products mainly from images I draw myself. There are also some classics from the punk subculture and other resistance movements over the years. In all my illustrations my own values are visible, appreciating nature, human and animal life and resisting their destruction. My prints are feminist, vegan, anti-racist and oppose hatred towards women and minorities.
As I can only do monochrome prints on canvas and I love colour, I have recently expanded my range to include pins and stickers. I make them by printing, so I can play with colours and also make small batches quickly.
If you're not familiar with my products, I recommend you next browse the range on the online shop to see what I'm talking about.
According to my original idea, this was a short introduction, which ended up being a bit longer. In my future articles, I will tell you more about my different products, their history and the manufacturing process. Feel free to leave a comment if there's something in particular you're looking forward to hearing more about.
